Watch out for rocks.....hehe.
I learned to dodge rocks playing NES! Cars however, are a different story😂

Fun interview Bear.
Mike Tyson Punch Out... I do have good memories of that one. I used to be almost decent at it back in 2010, 2011.

Thanks! I think Santa did a better job of making me sound like a Hall of Famer in his introduction than I did in my own interview.   It's tough following Bimmy and Greg, but hopefully everyone enjoys reading it.

Haven't you played Frogger?  It would be good dodging practice!

I did!  It was a great interview, thanks for sharing!

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was my showoff game in college.  Most of the guys had never actually seen someone beat it so I was happy to oblige.     It's a tough game and a worthy achievement!

Nicely played, Doug. Only one question though: What's wrong with Yoshi? Ok, so his game has been done before, but I thought he pulled off the Tetris formula pretty well.

I'm not really into puzzle games, so that stood out to me as the first contest game that I really didn't care for. I'll play Tetris anytime and I do enjoy some of the more arcade style puzzle games like Puzznic, Klax and Palamedes, but my gaming time is fairly limited nowadays, so I basically stick to playing my personal favorites when I can get the time to play.

For whatever reason I could roll through the game as a kid, but I couldn't ever beat Mike Tyson until about 12 years ago when I started playing NES games again. Now I can TKO him in the first round probably 1 in 5 times, but if you tried to tell my 6 year old self that one day I'd be able to do that I'm sure I wouldn't have believed it.

Nice interview Doug!

I remember when I finally beat Mike Tyson when I was young, something like 11 years old. It was a huge deal for me, cause I tried for weeks (if not months) to win that damn last fight, I thought I would never do it for a moment. Beating Mike Tyson was really a 'I don't believe you' feat among friends of my age at the time. Good times!

I never beat Mike Tyson Punch Out when I was a wee lass, but managed to beat everyone at round 1 late 2010.
And it was actually the first game I took part on the contest and my actual first win.
Too bad I can't play it at that level any more.

When I actually beat Mike Tyson the very first time it was by decision and it took me totally by surprise. I had been practicing for weeks since I was determined to finally beat the game since Punch Out was the only game that I owned as a kid that I wasn't ever able to beat. I was low on health towards the end of the final round and one more knockdown would've been a KO for me, so I was just trying to survive. I was relieved when the bell rung and the idea of winning by decision didn't even cross my mind until "The winner by decision is Mac" popped up on the screen and it just hit me out of nowhere that I had finally beaten Mike Tyson's Punch Out over 15 years later. I literally jumped up from the couch and dropped the controller in disbelief. As many great scores that I've been able to put up during the contests, that moment really stood out for me.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was the only NES game my dad ever played and beat. When he beat Tyson I was so proud and thought "I have the coolest dad ever!"

The only games my dad played were Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt and Mike Tyson's Punch Out. He could beat SMB and was pretty good at Duck Hunt, but he couldn't get past Great Tiger in Punch Out. I tried to show him how to block the magic punches, but to this day he still complaints about how he couldn't beat "that cheating Indian guy that disappears".

Do it Doug! I love MTPO but have never beat Tyson and only ever made it to him once or twice legit with no code. Sandman usually takes me out.

I always played it straight through which made it tougher since losing to Tyson was an automatic game over. I knew about the code, but I wanted to beat the game from start to finish in a single run.

I'm pretty sure I posted this in another thread somewhere but when I first got my NES on Christmas I also got four games: Commando,Kung Fu,Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!,and Pro Wrestling.

I didn't get another game until the next Christmas so I knew these games very well. I remember trying to see how many consecutive times I could beat Tyson without losing. I got up to 110 before I stopped keeping track.

It's funny, because if I was creating a dream line-up of contest games by genre, Yoshi would almost certainly be my puzzle choice. Different strokes!

While not my favorite puzzle game,I liked Yoshi a lot more than I thought I would when I first played it.

Yeah, it gets really good once you can consistently ace the full egg towers, and not make a mess of the board. I remember playing it when I first started collecting NES, and being a little baffled by it. It isn't the most dynamic puzzle game, but it's satisfying to have the abilty to build a solid enough foundation for anything the game throws at you at fast speed (around the 20K mark for me, I play Low speed).
