Haha. Murder. For real. The last few threads have probably been at least 50% alcohol-fueled shenanigans. Not that I'm disapproving.

I keep getting to Stage 5 pretty consistently now, found a another score trick as well that I was stupidly not doing before.........Bea how in the hell do you avoid getting hit at the start of stage 3? I always take a hit there, thank god the yellow cave is beyond easy.

... Duck?
Then wait the zombies to start spawning and shoot to your hearts content. It is... easy.

hmmmmm the quintessential duck of course.......genius.

Now that I think about it my runs will be 1 life better since I usually exhaust a life on the first 2 devils because of those bats....nice.

I can't consistently kill the wizards Bea is outlining. The constantly spawning zombies sponge my attacks, and I end up getting hit by the magic, which is a terrible fate. So I haven't been taking advantage of that point source, unfortunately. I've also barely made it any kind of distance forward in the game. It's bad (my performance, not the game).

Space your shots properly after it starts spawning. It is tricky and difficult, but you will get the timing with practice.

Nice even score. This game is just...arggh. I practiced level 2 for hours but I still can't beat the boss. Thankfully on this run I got pretty lucky with the king drops on Stage 1.

Also, really starting to prefer the torch to the knife. Just a little bit more useful once you know how to use it. Hope I can get good at this and be competitive this week.

The cheapness of this game is mind blowing. I can get to the boss of level 3 but that's it.

Yeah this game blows. Clearly they did not have this figured out until the sequels

Only managed 443,000 on my runs today. I am trying to master the stage 1 perfect score run, but damn, that bit is hard. You have next to zero lenience and needs to score at least 35,000 points per life on stage 1 to accomplish that with the 10K king that will drop on your third life.
And on my last run I had a cheap death on stage 6 when a ghost spawned right on top of me when I was on a ladder and I did a very stupid mistake against Astaroth that costed me a life.
I will do better tomorrow. Now it is bed time for me.

I'm sure I would be doing better with a walkthrough or watching some youtube videos, but I want to play each week without help to see how I do....and this week I'm failing miserably.

I have a lot of problems with 8 bit games that are... raw.  GnG, Zelda, and Metroid, are all basically betas to me, of much more polished games that came several years later

Can't disagree with you since I love the games which you mention.... but I like GnG better than the SNES counterpart as an exception

Super GnG is good, but it is so freaking slow.
You press jump, go out boil water, put coffee ground on the filter, brew the damned coffee, drink two cups, go back to the game and Arthur is still middle jump.

Also, won't you guys put on a challenge to me? Are you all going to be plummeted to the ground by a weak, defenceless girl? Shame on you all.

I just realized I was doing something in a really dumb, difficult way on Stage 2. No wonder I was having such a hard time. I managed a slight improvement after that, but I won't post until I crack 150k at least. I feel like I can definitely hit 200k before the end of the week. That's my new goal.

Yes...yes I am. You are going to pummel me to the ground at this game....and quite easily.
