Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the weekly contests.  This week it's gonna be a sports game.  Yes, a sports game.  I can hear you all groaning right now but hopefully you will have some fun with it.  This week it's NES Open Tournament Golf.  Here are the rules:
  • Start a new game.  You may not use an old saved game file for the purpose of this contest
  • Choose 1 player stroke play game
  • Play on the UK course
  • Lowest score wins
  • GENRE: Sports


The contest ends Sunday, 9/22/13 at 10 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

I really like this game! I had never played it prior to a few days ago,but it plays just like black box golf so if you have played it,then you'll feel right at home with this one.

Indeed, it is basically an enhanced version of the original Golf. In fact, all the Mario golf series take roots in Golf, and you can already see many of the basic mechanics in Nes Open.

I'm usually not so good at sports games, but after my lucky streak in bases loaded, here's hoping I can defend my #1 spot in the sports category!

@Bimmy: Will playing on the ambassador version for the 3ds be OK, assuming there are no changes of course? And also, does NTSC-J count as NTSC? I've been wondering since I just bought a Famicom. Thanks.

Bimmy can make this a genre ! The number of golf games on the nes is insane!!!.Do we really need so many golf games on the nes? And there are even unreleased golf games for the nes.       My god it's golf not a popualaire sports game like soccer or american football or tennis!  Who bought all these games back in the day?

Finally, a game I own! I've got basically no experience with golf games on the NES, but I've been itching to get back into the competition here, so hopefully I can find the time to squeeze in a participation point at least.

It's hard to believe I've never played this before, huh?

I just wanted to get a game in so just in case I didn't want to play it again I could get a point, but I feel like I can get into it this week so I'll be doing some research in how to improve and hopefully get something respectable by the end of the week. I can safely say however that under par is probably out of the question for me.

As long as the game is exactly the same as the NES version, there shouldn't be a problem.

This x1000. Looks like there's 7 golf games on the NES (that have the word golf in the title, at least, which I think is all of them). So that's almost 1% of the set which is pretty significant. And only Golf Grand Slam is even remotely tough to get.

Anyway, looking forward to this one especially after skipping Heavy Barrel last week. I was terrible when we played BB Golf but I actually played a few times since then and improved quickly. Big fan of Mario Golf for N64 over here.

Geez you're inspiring me that I may actually have to attempt this. I haven't played in a year or so but it's really not that hard to come in under par over 18 holes as the mechanics are like all those hot shots games and clones more or less.

This is the first time I've played this in about 20 years.  It's how I decided to kill time before GTA V goes on sale.  The controls came back to me super quick and I know I could beat that score, but my time will be dedicated to GTA for the rest of the week.  Thanks as always for putting on the contest.  (EDIT for a clearer photo)
