I talked Kevin in to making us an HDMI mod kit for the nes consoles since he already had most of it figured out on his FPGA multi system.
This is just the initial announcement of release, more info will be posted as we make it happen.

Not a clone system!
Uses the nintendo's cpu and ppu.
Fully HDMI standards compliant.

No frame buffer so NO LAG between controller and monitor.

Resolutions:
using ntsc cpu/ppu 480p, 720p, 1080p
using pal  cpu/ppu 567p, 720p, 1080p
Kit will auto detect which chips it's connected to.
It will also detect if either have failed and flash a trouble code.
Will output only as high a res as the monitor will handle.

Aspect ration will be user adjustable in the menu, seen as horizontal stretch in the menu in the vid.

A few palettes will be included and user selectable in the menu.
Custom palettes can be uploaded to the nesHD using a flash cart etc.

Built in overclocking with option to not have it mess up the sound pitch.

Reconfigurable hot keys to get to menu.

Console reset via controller hot keys.

Updating firmware will be done via an ".nes" file, via flashcart etc, if necessary.

All audio is generated in the kit, so it will be %100 digital and theoretically noise free.
User will be able to control each audio channel from the menu.
You will be able to adjust left and right volume output of each channel independently.
Most expansion audio chips will also be programmed in to the kit and we hope to auto detect which one will be needed for a game that is being played, but may also have the option to turn each on and off.
Currently working: normal nes audio, fds, N106, mmc5, and sunsoft 5B.
VRC7 is still a maybe...
5.1 and 7.1 is also a maybe...
Might also have the ability to turn off certain channels independently.

HQX scaling is also a maybe...

Scanlines will be included, still in progress.

Possibly a built in CopyNES.

Easy instal, desolder the cpu and ppu and cut out a few mounting holes using an included template.

Tested with some known problem carts, multi carts, powerpak, and everdrive.
More testing will be done as we progress.

Kit cost will most likely be under $150 and installation by me under $100, but nothing is set yet.

Oh my! I just bought a Top Loader this morning for $15 specifically to have it modded. This is definitely up my alley. Whats it cost to RGB mod a Top Loader?

RGB mod prices are on my website, but the 3D printed panels are sold out and no idea when they will be available again.
Also, I may not be able to take on any other mod work once the nesHD takes off.

As soon as Jason & Kevin offer these kits to the public after the trial period I will be offering installation service on these like I do NESRGB. (If they don't sell out faster than I can put a order in for some)

Kevtris? Feel like I just jumped into a time machine to 1997!

Very cool project, should be great. I have brand loyalty to BunnyBoy, so I'll be going that way if his project gets wrapped up soon enough. Loving the idea of a built in CopyNES if that comes to fruition.

Looks interesting. I'm less thrilled about having to cut the side of the top loader open to mount the HDMI port though.

There is such a thing as a panel mount hdmi cord. So it is possible to route the output of the board to the rear io. I doubt it'd work in a top loader (space constraint) However plenty of room on a front loader.

Because your TV is up scaling the signal from the Retron. Even if you see 1080p you are only gettig 1366x768.  I have a 2011 samsung plasma that I recently repaired PN43D4502D that has a native resoluton of 1024x768 and the Retron 5 showes up as 720p/1080p on scree info. But its only doing 720p 1024x768.

Is it possible the original CPU could be replaced with a regular 6502?
The Nintendo CPU is the same, just with audio circuitry, different pinout, and no decimal mode.

Can't wait until this comes out.

That's a great question, will have to ask Kev though...

Is there a chance the zapper will work with this mod?

Probably not. Even the best hdmi monitors have 1ms of latency. Too slow for the zapper to get picked up.

I've been waiting patiently for a legit organic upscale system. This is the first time I've found myself willing to take the dive. I look forward to modding one of my top loaders once this is available. I know you guys are going to be overwhelmed at first, but if there is any opening, I'll plunk cash down as soon as you're willing to take it. Thanks, and great work!
