Agreed, I've cleaned / resold at least 500 carts and have never seen security screws on the inside. That's a big enough red flag for sure.

Yeah, just odd. But your right, there are light scratches on the metal plate, combine this with the security screws and this thing has been tampered with. Hmm... I still like that cart though, I think I'll keep it in my collection.

Very cool thread, with some great information!

Looking at the cart variations within the N64 set, what are your guys opinions/thoughts as to which of the variants are the most difficult to acquire?

List of the top 5 (from toughest to easiest):

1. Rage Wars (grey) ---- Prior to the box find of 120 a couple months ago, and eventually when all of the resales are off the market.
2. Bass Master 2000 (grey)
3. Hydro Thunder (grey)
4. Army Men Air Combat (grey)
5. Aidyn Chronicles (grey)

Is that about right? And besides Rage Wars (currently) and Aidyn Chronicles both of which seem to pop up pretty often, how tough are the others?

I haven't really kept an eye on this recently, has Aidyn (grey) been showing up?  I'd say that list is pretty close.  I'd put it like this:

1. Rage Wars
2. Aidyn Chronicles
3. Hydro Thunder
4. Bassmasters
5. Hmm... maybe Road Rash

But I could be wrong...   That Aidyn was a bastard for me to find... it took me months.

Id say aidyn is rarer than hydrothunder at least at the time I was looking last year. There was always a grey Hydro and I think two aidyns poped up while I was looking and I got one of them. Your top 2 are correct. It took me about 8 months to find a grey bassmasters and I had to get it from canada. At one point I was sure it didn't exist but it does.

Am I the only one that's down on Rage Wars? Games like Bass Master show up a handful of times a year. There were 120 Rage Wars unloaded at once, plus others once people started looking for them. That's a ton of supply and I don't think the N64 cart collecting scene is quite that huge yet. I gladly sold my two with no hesitation at the $60-$75 range.

Rage Wars goes at the top of the list for price, but not rarity. The price on that one seems to be hype driven. Aidyn / Bass Masters both require just as much searching IMO. I don't keep up with Hydro Thunder because I don't collect them.

I think there is only a small number or Rage Wars out there.  I'd be suprised if there weren't quite a few more Aidyn, Hydro Thunders and Bassmaster greys than Rage Wars.  But I guess there is something to keep in mind with the Rage Wars... all 120 of those are in hands of collectors.  So even though the total number is probably much less then the other titles, it should be easy to find if you really want to buy one.

For example... if you post a WTB: Rage Wars (Grey) for $80 here on NA you'll probably get a few PMs.  If you post WTB:  Aidyn (Grey) for $80, I'm not sure anyone will hit you up. They just arn't in the hands of many collectors.

Pretty sure there is a grey DK64. My girlfriend has one from when she was younger and I keep trying to get her to sell it to me. She won't let it go.

I need more proof that one seller from Canada selling multiple copies of the same grey cart variant. It just seems fishy to me.
