Okay, looking for feedback, thoughts, discussion...........commiserating.

First, I love my collection and collecting. No real urge to sell but I am having trouble enjoying it like I once did and I absolutely dislike the "buy more stuff to feel the pleasure".

Anyone else go through this ebb and flow of collecting? How can I do different things without having to buy more stuff. I know lately I actully get games from the shelf and play them, yes play them! Except the graded ones, I just get to look at them, and maybe touch them gently and inappropriately....sometimes.

I have also been trying to accurately catalog my stuff as well and value it. That is boring AF!!

I feel like I have run the gambit...first a few systems, loose games, complete games, sealed games, graded games, signs, displays, RGB obsessions, CRT's, PVM's, rare stuff, modern stuff, filler stuff, etc....

Can anyone relate to this constant spiral and care to share any thoughts on it? Is it just me? Anyone..............ANYONE!!!!???? :-) The therapeutic value
of one collector helping another right?

Thanks!

Gonna have to buy some topical cream for that BURN.

If you are playing them, looking at them and not wanting to catalog them there isn't really much else you can do with em.

Ugh, red! Why am I getting flashbacks to poorly formatted websites of the late 90's early 00's.

This thread has made me want to give up collecting and breathing for good. Thanks Sign collector douche!

Absolutely! Whenever I get sick of the hunt or just feel overwhelmed, I take a collecting vacation. No eBay, no browsing this site, and no alerts on my phone. This usually gives me a new perspective and a great sense of relief. It also let's me evaluate whether I really want to keep going or just be done completely. It's really nice not to worry about missing a great deal or unique item for a few weeks. Very few of these objects are truly disappearing. They will recycle through the community, maybe for more money, but that's economics.

You can always make more money, but you can never make more time.

Don't make me pretend to read that shit again man, I can't even be bothered to do that!

Collecting videos grams has sucked the life out of me, I can barely even be bothered to masturbate like more than once a day sometimes...

My only hope, someone will datamine decent topics like this one for the awesome Nintendo facts and one day they will unearth the version of wind waker that wasn't cell shaded.

Oh, and also that Meowth demo thing for GameCube where he was playing guitar. Was that the inspiration for guitar hero? Nintendo should sue for royalties to like Activision or whatever.

Maybe you just need another hobby besides collecting. Whether that's gaming (a close corollary), excercising, playing sports, watching TV, going out, etc. You generally have work / sleep and then this huge category called personal time, of which collecting is a subset. The thrill of collecting is in the hunt as most people eventually realize. Ownership just boils down to fruits of your labor and generally isn't as exciting.

If you find yourself needing the thrill of collecting again, expand to a new hobby or system, or sell off and start again. That's really the only way to keep chasing that feeling if that is the feeling your desire.

I got so bored of collecting I started rewatching Rick and Morty, but I skipped all the boring episodes. Actually the show has like a pretty poor hit rate imo, the good episodes are great, but there's just as many meh ones. Is it still cool to talk about Rick and Morty? I'm so bored I don't even care.

I like to collect and it really never gets old. What makes me bored, sometimes, is what I'm collecting for. I'll get frustrated that I missed an auction or that a set takes so long to complete or that I can't find something...and move on to something else. I have around 4 major collections of different things, I typically bounce back and forth between them if something pisses me off.

That said, I do enjoy basking in the glory of a collection. Haha. (both mine and watching other people's videos.) The problem has been (in recent years) that I haven't had enough room to properly display stuff...so it was all in boxes and forgotten about. But after one can display it, it's a game changer. It's much easier to stay motivated when it's out and you can see it!!

Also, all you need is that rainbow font bullshit where every letter is a different color in the OP. Then it'd be truly bad 90s.

when anything starts feeling like a "chore" rather than a way to spend your time, It's time to step back and take a break.

I've grown bored of the act of collecting. I just don't have the time to play all the games I want. And for me personally if I own a game I won't play, why own it in the first place? That's just me though. So I've been purging my collection little by little this year. Plus I have so many new games out and coming out soon that will keep me busy. I feel like collecting old games hobby got started simply because Wii U had no games coming out so I resorted to the old stuff to satisfy my needs. But with Switch games coming out almost too often I can't keep up, current gen games have been keeping me happy.

I take a break from collecting and focus on other things. I was big into collecting in 2002-2004. I then took a long break on collecting until 2012. In that time I started watching more movies, tv shows, and just playing modern games online. Between that and work I was busy for almost a decade. Unfortunately, I missed out on many great prices during that time off, but I've diversified my interests. Since 2012, I have collected on and off, more these last two years. However, I have a wife and kids, so I don't have much time to play. I'm building up my collection for when I finish my basement to be able to play.

I recommend picking up a new interest like reading, working out, site seeing, or catching up on movies or tv shows.

Have you considered collecting STI's? Or perhaps the bodies of family-less vagrants in the trunk of your pickup?

Yeah, one of those plastic locking lids to cover the hobo corpses. You can keep your spree up for over 300% longer without being caught, and make fewer trips to the desert to bury them.

My advice, sell the collection and by a pick-up truck with a locking lid over the back!
