Not sunfaded, I swear! More like timefaded, since it was kept inside its original box by the previous owner, but eventually turned brown, then ended up in my hands.

What I find remarkable on this unit is how even the brown colour is. Look at that smooth brown, crisp, oven-baked finish    I can smell the croissants being taken out of the oven by the master baker in Paris, complete with moustache and tall white hat.

And notice how some parts stayed 100% grey like the day it was produced. Look at the plastic ring around the power button, it's perfect. Then the ring around the reset button is completely brown

I wanted to swap the unit but the more I look at it, the more I find it a work of art done by time and oxygen.

I'm way too lazy to open up yet another SFC. You know, when you unscrew the bottom screws for the 1st time, they make a nice "pop" sound. It's like deflowering. I'd rather not unless absolutely necessary.

But based on the serial I think it's too recent to be a 1-CHIP

Manufacturing engineers at Nintendo who are responsible for this defect performed Seppuku. It is now a major basis of shame and embarrassment to those in Japan. :-)

Never seen this. Reminds me of the Snes controller which is the same colour.

I do think it was a defect in bromine concentration; there's no reason why one of the rings around the buttons has reacted and the other hasn't.

This seems to be my lowest serial SFC (192X), all the others are higher and are either completely unyellowed or just lightly, and not evenly.

You mean a controller that has yellowed, or a controller that was originally in this colour? I don't know of any that came in this colour.

I worked in injection molding for years and we made stuff out of ABS all the time. Any additive to the plastic could have been goofed during the process at multiple points and multiple machines at multiple times
conjuring a total randomness in what we see today. Happened alot with plastics across many types of products in the 90's.

Most of the discolored consoles I see are in shit condition but this one looks hella good. Very nice. Don't drop it though, it's gotta be brittle as hell, it'll shatter into a million pieces lol.

There are only 2 things I know about Bromine:

1. It is one of only two elements that is liquid at room temperature/pressure in its purist form. The other is mercury.

2. It is brown as fuck.

I know it's a chemical imbalance thing, but is the discoloration a lack of bromine or too much? Or the fact that it's even in there or not? I can never remember.

Love how the Start/Reset rings are opposite colors. It's like your Family Koala has heterochromia.

That was my first thought after seeing the pics, I loved the color but thought it has to be like sugar glass. 😛

Oh god, now I can’t unsee the Koala! If you flip it upside down, right?
