So I bought one of these yesterday to use up my trade in credit at Gamestop...I've been looking for one that was $20 or under but never found one...till now.

Anyways the guy there checking me out was mentioning there was a USB drive hack on Amazon you could get that would reflash the PS1 and put ALL the PS1 games on there...

So two questions. What is this said USB drive hack (the name please or a link if you want). And, could this brick/kill the PS1 classic if I used it. I don't really want to risk it...I mean it's $20 so it's not like a super expensive item but I still don't want to brick it and have to toss the damn thing.

I know the PS1 classic isn't amazing...but I'd still like to try this hack out...it's easier then pulling out my PS1, hooking it up and looking through my games for what I want. I'm willing to put up with the flaws of the system for getting to be lazy lol.

Just download the files on your own USB thumbstick and plug it into the PS Classic. It's called AutoBleem and it is 100% plug and play. It will not brick the system and the system goes back to factory settings when you unplug the USB. Hit me up if you want more advice. People create "builds" for different sized USB drives. I have a 64gb build / pack I like that has a ton of retro systems on it and good PSX games. My favorite is the Virtual Boy emulator on it. I can finally play the Wario game for Virtual Boy.

Hi Tbone

Sorry to thread hijack Astor, but if you use Autobeem does it allow for games saves too?

thanks!

Yes it does.  Everything works great.  All retro emulators and the PSX emulation.  Really sweet set up when you download those packs.  All the menus, backgrounds, font, and music are customized.  Like if you get an RPG build the cursor will be a sword and the background will be Final Fantasy characters.  Or with the Virtual Boy emulator the sieds of the screen say Virtual Boy in red (the area of the 16 X 9 screen that isn't filled by the 4:3 VB image).  Stuff like that is a really nice touch.

If you do not want to add the games and game files to your USB card yourself you can always shop around for a bargain on eBay. Seems you can get a pre-loaded one for $30-$40. Worth it IMO.

Hold up....

This one seems even better as it comes with the splitter that allows you to run the USB from the back of the PS Classic. This not only looks better but allows you to play with two players as it frees up the second controller port.  Also it is supposedly better to run it from the back as it has more power that way.  The front USB ports were designed at lower power.
