Well, the specific color you used won't matter too much as the NES has a 64 color-only palette, so I'd have to use what's closest to any submissions.

As for the graphics, I like the red and green ones.  The blue one looks neat, although I don't think I'd call that a jewel...  Looks more like a snowflake.  The orange square-like one could use some tweaks to the highlights, but that is a shape I'd want.  The purple one looks like an hourglass, so that one is a nay.  The yellow one is alright, although I think like the orange one it could use a tweak to the highlights.

A good start though.

I attached a file of what the gems from the original Columns looked like.  They obviously won't be this detailed on the NES, but it could help.

It sounds like you will end up with too many colors.

Will the jewels use background palette colors as well, or just the sprite palette?

No, things will be fine.
Jewel 1 and 2 would use palette 1
3 and 4 palette 2
5 and 6 palette 3
magic uses 4 (shared with the BG. Flashes upon BG use)

The sprite palette is the same. While the tiles are falling, they are sprites, but when they lock in place the sprites get rendered into BG.

In case any of you are curious, here are the fruit tiles in action:

I intend to make it so the caption on the right reads "FRUIT" instead of "BLOCKS"

I was wondering if anyone could draw up 7 such tiles. The specifications go as follows:
-Must be 15x15 pixels
-Each jewel should have a different general shape
-Each jewel has one primary color and one "bright" or "illuminance" color on it
-The aforementioned bright color is shared by exactly 2 jewels.
-The primary colors of the jewels should be red, purple, blue, green, yellow, and orange
-The 7th jewel is the magic jewel, though I can probably draw this. If you have ideas, though, I'll look. The magic jewel can have 3 colors instead of 2.

And, most importantly:
-If I like your set, you can be in the credits and guaranteed a LE copy when that time comes.
