Yeah, but it wasn't Contra III, so it isn't the same series.

That's like saying Yoshi is a Mario sequel.

Yoshi? As in the puzzle game? Terrible comparison.. At least Contra Force is in the same run & gun action genre as the first 2.

Run?   More of a speedy pimpwalk.

Does that make Yoshi, Mario, and Punchout a trilogy?
I would consider that long before calling the feces festival that is Contra Force part of the Contra "trilogy".

Also, for Category A and a game that had no sequel... do you mean EVER? No sequel on SNES, nothing??? That makes that category much more interesting. Thus I tried to answer it as such. My choice would be Kung Fu, but it had a Japan-only sequel. I haven't played it enough yet to know how much I like it, so I don't know if I would put them in column B.

Almost impossible, no way. Lots have already been mentioned and I would add:
MC Kids
Battle of Olympus
Shadow of the Ninja
Journey to Silius
Astyanax - OK, that one is probably not anybody's favorite, but it's decent. This brings up another question. Do games that have ports to other systems count as a series of one? Astyanax was an arcade game before it was a Nintendo game. So, for that matter, was Kung Fu [Master], and it had ports for Atari as well as most of the 80s gaming computers. I am inclined to say they all count as one game, because technical changes aside, they were intended to be the same thing. On the other hand, it could be said they are still drastically different, especially in the differences between arcade versions and home versions.

Maybe Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu is a secret Kung Fu sequel. Kung Fu was based on a Jackie Chan movie.
