sorry for reviving a dead thread but does anyone know if we are at a point yet of english translation of jap exclusives being made? Guntz was right on the n64 repros popping up. ive seen a few differnt n64 board repros so far, so obviously some people out their have cracked this one. so are any of those people working on english copies? id love a cart of dobutsu no mori that is playable and looks like a legit n64 game. are we still to far away for people to spend time developing this stuff for games other than second attack and sculptors cut?

I'm kind of surprised it HASN'T been a thing yet.

I think some of the repro-makers out there like Fishyface games + Flashback would only benefit from having some n64 translated CIB's in their library.

There must be some kind of technical hang-up involved.

It works on my V64 and Dr.V64jr, so: probably. I tested an early version of the patch for Ryu (the patch's author) to confirm that it worked on actual hardware before he even released it. I recall pointing out that the Controller Pak manager you get when you hold start at boot up wasn't translated and he fixed it for the final release.

Being able to simply play it isn't my goal. I just want a translated copy on the shelf next to my SFC Wonder Project J. For that I took a Japanese copy, dumped it,  patched it, burned the patched ROM dump to an EPROM, and rewired the original cart for EEPROM so that I'd have an English version as authentic as possible. I have two boxed copies of J2 and I'd like to do something similar someday.

Nice now that is dedication and I can respect that.  I been thinking of doing the same for Dragon Quest V and VI but so far I just have the SFC carts only.

When I do my copies I can do an extra DQV (already have a dupe). ]]>

Thanks. All I wanted was the news that you've already read or a link to the discussion on this forum. All I'm interested in is the logic.

Obviously, fakes are a big deal and we don't want to perpetuate them, but I'm more excited at the prospect of an English Wonder Project J2 or an Ocarina of Time Master Quest cart. I was actively researching the possibility of substituting the GameShark's two EEPROMs to accomplish this (the address translation logic is already there). It looks like a dead end simply because the GS/AR allows the first 4K to pass through from an attached game. It still may be possible with an attached game but I don't think so as a dedicated cart.
I don't really follow the N64 much but does the translation of Wonder Project work on the everdrive?
