Sorry, I'm sort of new and rejoining the retro community after years of inactivity. Do you mean that the flat screens (such as the one in OP) will have lag? And I thought the light guns will work with this model since it's SD and not HD--unless there's some interference with the geometry of the flat screen?

Adding a CRT to my setup will take up a considerable amount of space, so I'd prefer to have something that will be worthwhile and won't leave me nabbing at my subconcious.
Even though these are SD, I have found light guns to be very finicky with flat screens. There are plenty of Trinitrons with the rounded screen out there. If you are concerned about light gun games, you may want to hold out for one of those.

Thanks. There's a good rounded one in the area as well, but the owner purports that the sound has a buzz at certain volumes; not sure if it'll be worthwhile for me to pick it up only to have the sound annoy me.

I'll pick up the TV in the OP for now until I can replace it later down the road. ]]>

He means "flat panel" TV will lag. Flat CRT should work fine if it's SD and has no image processor.

Oh, I see. Okay, thanks!

I re-read the entire thread again; looks like I'll be fine with this model until I can get a good BVM or PVM, or even an XBR100 with the feature box. Doubt it.

Thanks! Really excited to pick up this TV this weekend! ]]>

I found one of these local listed for free. I'm getting ready to go pick it up. I see that it only has 1 S-video and 2 AV inputs. What did you guys do for multiple consoles?

I have one of these for NES, SNES, PS1, etc...  It's not RGB, but for $20, it's pretty convenient.

And then I added this, for newer consoles...

I don't think that switch supports S-Video.

For my SNES and N64, S-video makes a HUGE difference. For GameCube, the quality jump for S-video over composite was much greater than the jump from 480i S-video to 480p component.

That said, I bought 3 brand new S-video cables (Retrobit?) several years ago and found they all had something wrong. I had to return them to the local shop for a refund. It looked like a fine pattern over the whole screen. I modified an official composite AV cable (repositioned pins in the multi connector) and made my own S-video cable that worked great for SNES/N64/GameCube. Then I bought a bunch of really cheap ones on eBay that worked great. ]]>
