Can't do that. It was in a different state, I was traveling. Yes rocketeer codes for extra lives, the one that starts you with 7 lives didn't work.

You might have to get a new game genie I'll have to dig out my own to check out the "test" mentioned. Try cleaning all contacts that you can if it already doesn't work then there is nothing to lose by trying to clean it  
I just did that I opened it up as well and cleaned the insides. I used rust remover, windex ( which is supposed to clean the top game cart sold effectively on the nes one at least) and rubbing alcohol.

Not a single thing changed from what I originally described.

Is there is certain way to clean it or do something at this stage? I'm using an first released snes and a 2 release genie (dashes appear) so I don't think its that.

I paid quite a bit, embrassed to say how much, from this gaming store, I'm a bit pissed off since it was claimed it was tested from this big name store, which is why  I actually didn't ebay it, they went out of their way to bag and it print, "tested and refurbished" on the packaging. The least they could have done was check it.
