I have prolly played around 2,000 (rough estimate) games of SC2. All of them ranked, I have been as high as gold. When i was gold I lost pretty much every game. Even at a really low skill level, you can still have fun losing just trying to survive. I even went on the Korean server for a bit, just to die. It is prolly the best RTS ever made. If you like RTS you must play it. The only problem is that you will need at least 50 hours before you start to consider that you are even sort of good, IMO.

The issue with StarCraft is you have to have your strategy down to the very seconds. Every second counts, and if you can't multitask and plan 4 steps in advance you are bound to lose. Also you have to memorize every unit and every possible strategy a person can be using and then know how to counteract it .

I only made it to silver myself.
Yeah, that's why I never made it very far in ranked either. When played at my preferred pace, I find RTS games to be fun and relaxing. Unfortunately that pace is way, WAY slower than needed to win. By the time I'd started creating troops, I'd already have enemy armies blowing up my base. I could have tried stepping up my game, but I knew it wouldn't be as fun to me as just playing a leisurely game against the CPU.

I can hardly imagine what it must be like for those competetive players who can manage like, what, 20 inputs per second or something crazy like that? It's like that Dr. Who episode: "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead."

Yeah, I've been playing on and off since WoL Beta. I have 6000+ games on record, mostly drunken team games with friends or 1v1 cheesing.
I've used Random the most as I love all the races and matchups, but Terran is the only one I'm not comfortable with yet. Just prior to reading this topic I returned to laddering after ~2 months' break, ended up with 4-4 - not too shabby for my weakest race.

Here's to hoping that LotV shall deliver!
You on EU server or Americas?
