Got a video up on the frontpage, soon to be followed by three panels. I got footage of me doing my thing, divingninja talking about variants, and then Lost Save, a panel by two college librarians on the poor history keeping of video games. I heard it was a really good one.
This sounds exciting!  ]]>

For those of you that missed it, several NAers in Texas worked together to put on the Let's Play Gaming Expo earlier this month. Ferris Bueller was there, and he gives us the inside scoop since he was one of the event planners. Over 60 free play consoles from Atari 2600 to Xbox One, an official tally of 89 total cabs/pins in the free play arcade, and lots of video game firsts. "Like what?" you ask? Two player Street Fighter on Virtual Boy, the million point challenge achieved on PowerFest 94, an outside 4 Square tournament hosted by WAKA, and the first ever qualifier for the Classic Tetris World Championship at PRGE in October, just to name a few of the original attractions that were there!

MTV's Cribs is still relevant, right?

It's so good to see all the positive feedback. On more than one occasion, people asked how many years we'd been putting this on. And when we told them it was the first, they couldn't believe it! People were certain it was year 3-5. Of couse, if you have something you saw or thought we could do to make it even better, let us know!

And for everyone that came out to support us in our first year...

ROTJ we don't have, but would be a nice bookend to the Star Wars set. We have had a Star Wars Trilogy, but it wasn't really a game any of us liked so it went away.

We have an Edot, but it is virtually unmovable and currently broken. I don't think it will make an appearance unless we end up with a lot of strong help and a huge truck to move it. We do have a normal Tron cab, but it's got board issues that are going to take some time to sort out, so it didn't make it on the truck. I Robot we have, but it's also got some board issues we want to sort out before bringing it. We also have a Spy Hunter cockpit, but it's kinda rough so we want to restore it a bit before using it for the show. A priority was to have solid, working games for people to play and not broken down messes.

I was hoping to have an Operation Wolf, but it wasn't working when it came time for the show, so hopefully next year.

The others might be possible, outside of the Missile Command Cockpit. That's a crazy rare one that may not come up, but we're always looking!

It's funny you mention Arkanoid, in my bins of parts I actually found almost all of the parts we need to build one, so it was on the list of projects but didn't come up in time. I'll push it to the front of the list for next year, I miss having one! I also found a Playchoice 10 gun in my storage, so I expect to have that mounted with the 3 gun games in rotation next year. Not quite the same as Op Wolf, but still very fun.

Some great suggestions! I've noted them on my master list and maybe we can check a few of them off next year!

I expected more 90's stuff, but that is not a complaint at all, as I probably wouldn't have played them anyway. The homebrew kinda machines also blew me away and were totally unexpected.

Other games that are hard to get the full experience without the original machine
Arkanoid
Cockpit Missile Command
Discs of Tron environmental
Baby Pac Man
SDI (Global Defense)
Paperboy
Spy Hunter
I Robot (long shot)
Super Sprint (any sprint type)

Maybe some of the older "gun" games like Operation Wolf ]]>

Were there any titles that you wish had been there? We worked to get a good mix of genres and eras, which I think we did pretty well at. I would like to see more 90's representation which will be coming next year.

Thanks to everybody that attended! I know all of the staff really enjoyed talking with the folks that attended and we all had fun running the show, so next year will be even bigger and better!!! ]]>

Wow, I was not really expecting this to be as awesome as it was. I only went on Sunday afternoon thinking the arcade would be a bunch of fighters platformers and late shooters, but it was a pre-crash (or just post) dreamland for me. So many color vector games, I just couldn't get out of that room. This was a great arcade, and I wish I'd had more time at the event. I didn't even get to see or play the VB!

Great arcade games I played
Empire Strikes Back!
Wacko
Reactor
Quatum
GaPlus
That weird Trek Captains chair thing
Star Castle
Asteroids Delux
Battlezone
Satan's Hollow (cabaret)
Did I mention Empire Strikes back!

I didn't even make it to Gravitar, Major Havoc or the cockpit SW arcade.  Red Baron seemed to have a control problem by the time I got to it.

While I was there the arcade had pretty low traffic, and I could walk around and pretty much play whatever I wanted right away.  There were some games like Space Paranoids, Fix it Felix Jr, and Last Starfighter that would fit into the arcade "homebrew" category too - just awesome.

Man you should've played Major Havoc! That was a must play for me. Also enjoyed Tac-Scan,Mad Planets,Stratovox, and that ultra rare King and Balloon game. I think one of the guys over the arcade said that only 7 were made and that it ran off of two Galaxian boards. I think he said it was one of the first games,if not the first,to have speech. Fascinating stuff! Seeing that Joust pinball table floored me as well.

I could not believe how many legitimately very rare games were there. It was so surreal! ]]>
