Ya it's to tough to gain points purging lives later in the game. You need to be fully powered to get through most of the game so it's easier to purge them in the beginning so you can fully power up again.

oddly the last level was easy to regain powerups, only died bc my thumb gave out. Still wouldn't have beaten yours tho
Your right. The extra option and “f” power ups are a plenty in that last section.
