And ended up doing a lot of 100 points kicks in those two fights.

And the ninjas are a bit tricky, yeah. You have to be willing to take damage and have enough HP do take that damage. ]]>

Overall it was a half decent run with a final score of 9,010 points. I must have left around 1,500 or more points on the table with a super upper on an Abore and a lot of 100 points uppers and kicks here and there when I felt the need to play safe.
Someone who isn't awful at video games like me could possible achieve a score on the high 7K mark easily. ]]>

Damn Bimmy what's the word count on your story this week? I think you've set the record for longest Double Dragon fanfic piece.

I don't know what I was thinking this week. I didn't start playing until Sunday. I know I could have beat the game putting in regular hours.

I'm putting the blame on Breath of the Wild

Yeah, there were 7th and 8th place spots free for the taking for simply beating the game.

Yeah not really too smart on my part. It's shaping up to be a bad season for me.

What I'm wondering is how you guys got your scores so low. Personally I am not good at cyclone kicks so I didnt use them much. I am okay at the knee blast but that is specific occasions. For big enemies my main method was to jump at them, land, and do an uppercut. For small enemies I just used regular punches and kicks a lot.

I honestly didn't play in-depth enough to do point comparisons, other than knowing weapons give 0 points. So in general how do you have to play this game to acheive a low score? What moves do you have to primarily use? Are there way more opportunities to glitch the AI than I was able to see?

Hit enemies with enough punches to drop their health down enough to kill them with a single jump kick.
Against Ropers and late level low level mocks hit them with three punches, grab them and end them with three knees to the face. Against the ones that throw dynamite, wait for them to do so, taking a few punches here and there as needed, then force the AI to follow you on the Y axis up or down, go back to the dynamite y position and force them to walk over it while following you.
Scroll the ninjas out of screen by making them jump at the left most side of the screen and for the last four ninjas, keep dodging their attacks, getting hit here and there and when they start to hop around the dojo, jump down towards the gap and one of them will suicide there.
And so on.

Yeah, jump kicks work best if you're consistent with them. If you're not good with jump kicks you can use other low scoring combos such as a kick followed by a hair pull and knee smashes. Punching or kicking and then throwing is another option. For big enemies such as Arnold and Abobos I try to knock them down with kicks and then get in close and punch. Sometimes a mega uppercut or knee might be necessary, but then go in and punch after the knockdown rather than use more special moves. I don't even try to knock enemies off ledges with jump kicks but instead just throw them. For blue guys with the gloves and green guys with the sticks I usually just kick and punch them to death. Stick with basic moves and low scoring combos whenever possible, while avoiding the special moves and your score will drop. You probably won't wind up with 12k but you should at least get 20-30k.

I usually enjoy competing for a good Beat Em Up leaderboard placement. But looking over the roster of games a bit more closely, I think I'm more well-suited to the Arcade, Puzzle, and Platformer genres this year. ]]>
