There are only 3 or 4 new pads known? I have a new pad, but athletic world had been removed. I didn't think the pads alone were all that special to find unused.
3-4 known to be found new with pad and game.  Before smokinjoe's post, I'd only seen braveheart's, one that sold on ebay and mine.  That's pretty awesome if yours is new and still originally packed (cord wrapped, etc).  Kinda odd to take the game and leave the pad since it was required to play it though.  Do you know if yours game was taken by a sealed collector maybe?  Can't imagine many are in that condition, but it would definitely command a premium if unused.

Ha! I bought one just like this when I was in college. It was actually a loose Stadium Events and the pad was thrown in and I had no idea the Athletic World was sealed. I ended up parting with all of it unfortunately. Was a sealed FFF AW worth now a days? Did this truly go under the radar and has much more value?
About what year was that?  Do you know who you sold it to or if they are still around?  That would be 4 total that I’ve ever seen/heard of it was left sealed (game and pad).  The sealed game is a single digit population, so sales are scarce.  The price I paid was about what a lower condition one sold for in around 2011, and a couple owners each (unaware of the other) quoted me over the $10k mark for their value.  The pad is several hundred in good shape, so I think $2k is a safe bet for new since there are only 3-4 known, so I’d say $12k is my estimated valuation.  Not looking to sell, it’s going in the collection and I may or may not sell my open versions of each, but if I did they would easily cover this purchase.  Until I get some offers, that would be my guess.  Defintely rarer than SE sealed and several other overhyped NES games.
