Actually, that's where the connector that plugs into the snes goes (underneith).

It's not that it would be hard to dump this, it just would be very difficult to do anything other than emulate it.

Hard answer: very expensive while using 2-3 donor carts. The square chip and very long chip on the right are both DSPs, extra custom processors. Those cannot be reproduced (for less than the cost of that auction) so they would need to be pulled from donor carts. Buy the cart and send it over here for a few months, then I can give you more details

SNES does use a CIC chip, its actually the same processor as the NES CIC but with different code loaded inside. Chinese have made exact copies of the chip die but the encryption has not been cracked like the NES. Physical cart shape was used for region blocking, not for third party cart blocking. ]]>
