What's the red button? Emergency shutdown?   To deploy the nukes, of course!

I get asked that a lot actually. It's not a button but a volume knob to control the expansion audio.

Instead of a 47kohm inline resistor like Bunnyboy said to use, I have a grounded 10kohm audio taper pot installed so I can vary the expansion sound channel from zero to loud. It sounds "balanced" in about the 2/3 to 3/4 position.

Yep, I forget where, but I've bought new pads for NES and SNES controllers about a year ago or so and still have leftovers for both
I've got some bum controllers that still didn't feel right even after I cleaned out the Coke residue (yes one of them apparently had 30-year-old soda spilled in it). So I bought some replacement pads here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171548326537?

I'm probably just gonna swap out all my old controllers (I've got more than enough, hehe...). One of them however the CD4021 chip appears to be dead or malfunctioned so I'm gonna convert it to work as an Atari 2600/7800 controller. It needs new pads also.
