I mean...technically all things considered I shouldn't know anything about the NES or SNES because I began playing games in 1994 when I was like 5 years old, NES was dead at the time, the SNES was on its way out. Yet those are my two favourite consoles...go figure. ]]>

Considering the popularity of stuff like the Angry Video Game Nerd and how teenagers love swearing and spend lots of time on youtube (obviously not all, I'm not trying to stereotype or anything), you'd think more of them would have seen the angry video game nerd. None of his videos require you to create an account with a birthday over 18+ to watch either. ]]>

On the one hand, if these kids are gamers, how do you NOT know what an NES looks like? I mean come on, record players were way before my time but if I saw one I'd know what it is and how to use one. And that one girl that said "oh my iPhone case looks like that" just made me slap my forehead. Like, really? I want to ask her, "Why do you have an iPhone case like that if you have no idea what it is?!" Really, really dumb. But if these kids aren't gamers at all, it's still weird that some don't know what it is, but I guess how often do they really see one lying around? The last time I saw one in person was a few years ago, and that was only because I was in a secondhand game shop.

But then I calmed down afterwards and I became more sad at the realization that I'm getting old, having been born before the NES was even out. And it made me think of record players and black and white TVs and anything that was before my time. Like I said, it's not hard to recognize a record player even though they pre-date my existence by a good 20 years. But I'm also in the mindset of "why would I want to collect records when I can download music on iTunes?" so I get that the younger generation have not played NES games except maybe on Virtual Console. Some young kids collect records, because they're into vintage stuff, and likewise some young kids collect NES games for the same reason.

I had mixed feelings watching this video. I think my overall reaction is - damn I'm getting old. ]]>

10th grade also was when I first got to try the internet for the first time in 1997-98. And YES it was as slow as molasses and the only websites I knew of at the time were beckett.com and majorleaguebaseball.com (at the time a law firm held the rights to the mlb.com name and several years later MLB did buy it out). It wasn't until college I got to use proper high speed Internet (though at home I was way out in the sticks at the time (until 2004 when I finally got my own place in town) and I had no choice but to use a separate phone line and NetZero...which made the Internet the same price as cable internet in town, but much slower). Folks, dial-up Internet and high speed internet is like the difference between b/w and color TV.

I honestly can't believe how much the world has changed tech wise since I was out of school (11 and 15 years for college and HS respectively)...and it just doesn't seem like that long ago. Remember when the year 2000 was practically a synonym for "the future"? ]]>
