The "Crash Test Dummies" were Vince and Larry, the spokesmen for the safety PSAs on TV from 1985-1999
These toys are based on those commercials, but they are not the same franchise. The Department of Transportation distanced themselves from these toys early on.



These ads and commercials were not related to the toys, which I think is what has so many of you confused



In the late 80s Gary Larson released a compilation book "Night of the Crash Test Dummies"



In 1991 Tyco Toys released "Vince & Larry The Crash Dummies" and within weeks were forced to cease all production by the Department of Transportation. 
The word "test" was never used. Aside from the regular line of figures, no additional "Vince and Larry" merchandise was ever released.



Tyco quickly brought the line back to shelves in 1991 as "The Incredible Crash Dummies" and Vince/Larry became Slick/Spin.



Crash Test Dummies was a rock band from Winnepeg who had a huge hit in 1993 with "Mmm mmm mmm mmm"

I actually do not have one truly full pic like I should, I always planned to do one when I became truly satisfied with the completeness of my collection, I'm not quite there yet, but I should take an updated photo. I have everything together, i just don't keep it out. It's tough to set everything up because I got damn cats these days!
