Maine just passed a law to legalize fireworks but it doesn't go into effect until the beginning of next year.It's about time though fireworks have been illegal for what seems like forever.

Traditionally, my family and I light fireworks every 4th of July. I'm glad to say, however, that we did not this year. The drought is simply too severe where I live. I'm proud to not have contributed to potential negativity.

Between the Casey Anthony verdict and this, I don't know which one to facepalm harder at. On one hand, a woman who killed her little girl is set free. One the other, stupid people with fireworks burn down several city blocks. Hmm...

That really sucks! We had a kid almost go to the ER because someone threw a lit (but small) firework at him. Not good!

I could understand in dry states, but I'm probably in one of the most humid/wet states around, like I said before, people just traffic them in anyway from Missouri, so whats the point?

Law enforcement, thinks the law is a Joke also, so it never gets enforced.

The state is just loosing Tax money.

But as it is, they're inherently dangerous because they're an item of unknown quality that is explosive.

While they are fun to use, there is really no safe or responsible way to use an explosive device with as many unknowns as fireworks (fuse behavior, propellent behavior, explosive mixture, etc).

Well, the other major factor is also the risk of starting wildfires in drought states.

You're not just taking risks that affect you, and I wouldn't want some jackass taking actions that result in millions of taxpayer dollars being spent on fire suppression.
