It is possible, I thought that too The only difference is that this golden one is maybe the only statue official from Nintendo ( on the box there's the sentence "TM and R(rights) are trademarks of Nintendo". It's rare to see something similar, most of the times Nintendo officially licenses 3rd party factories to make action figures for them( like for example f4f and Jakks Pacific). 
On the box there's written 2006. Dont know about Japan, they got some crazy stuff over time. But that DS was the most expensive item in Europe even beating the Minish Cap SP set that cost 15,000 stars like the Zelda statue too if I remember correctly.
Thank you for this information! I didn't know this! I just remember this thing about the statue because it was limited to a number of pieces. Europe sometimes has very good stuff!
