I'm not sure when they made the switch, but good luck compiling a list. It will be huge. In order for these varients to become collectible, someone will need to assemble a list, determine which ones are hard to find, and broadcast it on the forums.

That is exactly why. The original model 1 SNES had a plastic lock piece that slid into the slot on the game cartridge and held it in when the power turned on. Children were pulling on it and breaking that plastic piece so nintendo started marking shells that looked like the second one. That way the cartridge could be pulled out without breaking the plastic lock.  ]]>
