Funny to read about Switch Lite consumers having to buy or have available extra joycons for Super Mario Party... they really botched that game didn't they?

No not really, Super Mario Party is super fun lol. If there are restrictions that prevent others from fully enjoying the game, I never noticed them. Went over to D~Funk's place one weekend and we played it in a big group, we had a blast.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and look forward to more SMP sessions down the line but I still think they botched many elements, I've been dissappointed by Mario Partys my whole life so this is nothing new of course - I wish wish wish this was the perfect Mario Party game but its just not.   Without going too into detail I think they missed the mark with what they were going for with the allies and variable dice; the maps are both lackluster and poorly designed *in certain parts* and special shoutout to the tropical level with 4 islands for being one of the jankiest maps in the entire series; there isn't much dynamic play with items and that applies to all maps; and then all the aforementioned input stuff, some of us really want to play Mario Party with a real controller again.   Another big point... no real online play.  They could have developed it... they have a paid service now - I'm sure they have their reasons but ultimately it's a totally missed opportunity.

On the flip side many of the minigames are absolutely next-level and top-notch, especially the ones where your Allies participate - I friggin love those they are ridiculous fun.  Graphically and environmentally the series has never looked better and I feel really immersed.   It's fun, and that's the most important thing.

Despite all the good parts, I'll still take the piss out of it and call it a botched release.

Nobody expects to be able to play a 4 player game on a 7 inch screen. If you buy a Switch Lite, you automatically accept that you will not be playing this game in a group.
That may be so but you also couldn't even play it by yourself without an extra Joycon since it doesnt support handheld mode either.  (Pre-emptive reply: yes some people play Mario party by themselves).   It's not common for Nintendo games to be hindered that badly by something basic like what type of input youre using so I still call it a botched release and they botched parts of the gameplay too.

Well, now that they're not releasing a Switch Pro, I might as well buy a regular one soon. Hopefully there's a decent deal on Black Friday.
Who said there would be no Switch Pro?  And honestly, I feel just the opposite of some of the rest of you; I do NOT like using portables as portables because I'm afraid if I do try to take one with me I might wreck it or misplace it or worse lose the game and its progress.

If anything I'd very much prefer to play (3)DS on the TV...but I guess it's just not meant to be.

Save data is on the system amd profile. Switch has cloud saves for most games too. Im with you though. People are really missing out not playing docked. Pro controller is better and the games look better, and you can actually relax. Playing handheld for long periods of time hurts my neck. The portsble aspect is cool and all but i find that to be the gimmick rather than docked mode. I bought this for a home nintendo console i could easily take somewhere. Like to a friends house who has a second dock and play there.

My Switch doesn't even know docks exist. To me the Switch has always been a 100% portable with an optional gimmicky video-out feature. I wish the joysticks on the Switch Lite were a little more low-profile for putting into my pocket tho. Maybe I'll get one and then hack my original Switch. But as mentioned, not if I can't move my save files over. Lol, my experience is the exact opposite.  Docked 99.9% of the time - even got an extra dock in the bedroom  .
