I tip my hat to all you guys.
Only spent about an hour with this title, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out the controls.

I kind of chuckled at a few of the screen shots. The scores looked like they were going to go outside the box there were in on the screen.
Remarkable stuff. ]]>

Yeah, I knew that about the extra lives in transylvania.

I didn't bother grinding, at all, when I played the game early in the week, since at the time I didn't completely realize the extent to which random drops would occur.

Seems to be much more efficient than I initially thought, since we are talking on the order of 4 million points from grinding.

Though I supposed compared to other grind-happy games from contests-past, only 25% of the score being attributable to grinding is not that high of a ratio.

Yeah, it's a small percentage of the score, but it's a large percentage of the time put in.  I tried to just think of it as a goal as I did so, but it still got pretty monotonous.  It's definitely not something I'll be doing all the time and can understand why most wouldn't want to do so.

My left thumb is also really sore too from holding down on the d-pad for as much as I did.  It's another side effect from the grinding.  If we play this again, I think I'll be satisfied with a regular 12M score

I never had to do the glitch, though I think my thumb wishes otherwise.

The biggest thing is not dying. Lives are worth a lot more in grinding. I noticed too the game wouldn't count lives past 9 so I had to do grinding before I went to every level so I could max.

Also, another little trick I found out yesterday during one of my runs, that I didn't know, was you can get a total of 4 lives from Transylvania. If you go to the Mines before completing Transylvania, you can collect the items in the Transylvania level when you are warped there. That includes the lives and the life bar increase. I wasn't able to keep the diamonds though but still the extra two lives helped.

As for grinding, all the levels are good except the Mines. The only enemies I know of there that can grind on are the slugs and they only give out 2K diamonds. Everywhere else has at least one enemy that gives out 10K ones.

And, of course, luck.  Sometimes I could get enemies to drop diamonds 5 times maybe in a row.  Other times I had major droughts.  During that last run I had major luck. ]]>

Did any of those use the timer glitch, or is there still room for yet another 1.5 mil on top? ]]>

Thanks guys! I've always had fun playing these contests but I never thought in a million years I'd actually take first in a week. I knew I had room to improve my score, and thought I could get my best finish, but didn't think it would be like this. Its kind of humbling but I'll remember this for a while.

Maybe this is the start of a big run for you where you will be a force in the second half?

I wish!  There are only, I believe four games in this half that I have experience with, though I own most but haven't played them.  This week isn't going to go well since I suck at scrolling shooters and coming up later this month I'm going to be gone for a couple weeks.  I'm only going to be around for half of the Trog week (I love that game, so that sucks) and I won't be around for Crash n the Boys at all.  Hopefully I'll get some time in for Smash TV.

I got lucky that I played Ducktales a lot when i was younger and platformers are my best genre I feel.

Also, in a couple weeks I have a job interview so if I get that, my time will be decreased by a lot since its full time, but it would be worth it   This last week as a whole has been great in my life so I hope that continues. ]]>
