Well, if someone bids 17,150 and another bids 20k, the final bid would be 17,250. The bid you put in is a max bid and Ebay autobids anything below. We don't really know the buyer's max bid here, just that it was above what it went for.

my eBay noob status is embarrasing - I was unaware of automatic bidding and how it works.

Hopefully my ignorance will not result in any significant seller missteps on my part...
