He also has a "BRAND NEW FACTORY SEALED!!" Earthbound listing.

Earthbound of course never came sealed, and it has a qualified grade from VGA.

Not as bad as selling reproductions as legitimate, but shows a clear pattern of misleading behavior. your point about it never being sealed is spot on of course, but it can actually get a standard grade.

Items that never came sealed get a standard grade if unopened.

So an earthbound that is unopened (but not sealed) would get a normal grade.

An earthbound that was opened, but had new contents, would get a qualified grade.

Was this real?
Looking at those pics, I think it is.  The cardboard (under the flap) looks correct and the art on the box doesn't look grainy like those fakes listed in the first post.

Not as bad as selling reproductions as legitimate, but shows a clear pattern of misleading behavior. Funny. One of the only threads he posted on NA a few weeks ago was about him looking for a mint CIB of Earthbound.

"Hi - I am looking for a very near mint to mint copy of Earthbound (SNES)
Would like to purchase/trade for it - to build up my collection. As I sold it a long time ago (you know how it goes)"

Sure thing, buddy.

It just sucks because newbie collectors are at high risk to leave the hobby and then their stuff gets sent into the wild where it confuses other future newbie collectors. . . cannibalistic I think, but impossible to prevent. ]]>
