"PacoChan" released an IPS Patch for the dumped rom, which corrects a number of bugs that prohibited you from moving along in the game. ]]>

Also, keep in mind releasing games for $50 a pop on stuff none of us have the rights to is just as bad. AS much as we all like to support homebrews, we don't have the rights to begin with. And the $200-500 "limited edition" versions of games that we don't have rights to? If you guys don't see how that is just as bad as "dumping for dollars" just because it's on physical media I'm not really sure you guys really understand this concept.

Just pointing out the abuse of terminology, here.

"Homebrews" are unique games made by individuals who actually do own the IP and have rights to do whatever they want with it.

Proto dumps and hacks (i.e. everything commonly called "reproductions") are NOT homebrew games. ]]>

And about my collection being private...it IS private. There is an old list of stuff from years ago that is extremely outdated from drx's site....no one knows what I have or don't have anymore these days unless I bring it up in forum but I have no website with lists of my stuff or pics. If people want to "preserve" or get this stuff "saved" no one has anyone to blame but themselves because I have stated numerous times people can do that if they come to my place....some stuff is saved, some stuff isn't....

No one ever "pesters" me by asking about stuff, no one ever asks me to dump things for free anymore, I am merely commenting about people that seem to "expect" it to be done.

I know things are more important than money. History of these things is important. Why do you think I acquired/saved so many of these from being thrown away/trashed? I just think that the expectation of someone who got all these to give them away is rather silly.

I just know there is a wealth of stuff here hanging out for people to have years and years of pictures/info, etc but I'm not the one to be doing it so if someone else wants to take that on...bring some money by, get a plane ticket and get started = P ]]>

Obviously, you intend to have some monetary gain on your prototypes at some point. That is fine, but really, if you don't want pestering from people, you should keep your collection private. ]]>

It is completely unfair to "expect" people to BUY an unreleased proto and RELEASE IT FOR FREE. So the guys in there that think that is ok, why don't YOU GUYS buy protos and release them for free because spending thousands of dollars to do it sure is a pain in the ass.

The reason WHY community dumps came about it because the value of the game goes down once it is dumped. It's a fact with protos.

Take this for example: $1500-2000 for a dump of Mike Tyson vs me deciding to "release 50 copies" of an unreleased Genesis game with case/manual that I STILL owe money to Mark/Matt because well, it hasn't sold out and now that it is dumped people don't want to pay for it.

Logic and truth: once the game is dumped, that's it. I know that the guy that had California Raisins offers at $3000, dumped it for free, and then couldn't sell it for $500-600 if I recall correctly. Great that it was dumped, but business-wise that was silly. Lost $2500 so people could play it for free, people would "forget" and then everyone EXPECTS more free shit later on. This is precisely why I loathed dumping for so long. Personally I could care less if things are dumped or not, but the people that still expect the games to be free need to just give me their house, their car, their collection, because, well, you know, I just want it, and you should give it away.

Now if people want to see games dumped, heck, I'll sell anything but people don't want to pay even "fair" prices sometimes, they want it dumped for free.....or expect me to know how to do it...as much as Mark/Matt have dumped stuff they STILL get asked to do stuff for free. I am sure there are things like in my collection they just WON'T dump.

Now about this Resident Evil game....it's not public knowledge where the game came from, but I can assure you he is taking a hit on the cost (by a LARGE margin) and the game pretty much is complete and authentic. There's something I didn't "dump" but you guys should know Resident Evil stuff is very much in demand.

There really is no "right from wrong" here, 95% of the people posting in here don't even own protos or care about them (jonebone yes I know you own a proto =P) so when people "post" their logic about what they expect it makes no sense, even down to the perceived "value" of a proto.

Rarity is highest when you deal with protos. That is basic logic. You guys will use that in terms of released games to get high dollar amounts, but we all know how volatile these things are...I've had 10-12 Genesis protos dumped for cash, and I've traded numerous things from my NES collection back and forth to GET THEM dumped, but even with all this (and the fact most of you probably don't realize 25-30 unreleased NES protos on the web came from stuff I have, and at least 10-12 Genesis and who knows how many disk system games) but no one remembers that kind of stuff because, well, I don't really advertise it.

I just think it's kind of funny what "bothers" people in general, dumping for money, making repros without licenses, I mean, it is what it is, it's all the same thing, lol....

Just know that to keep with topic at hand, the dude paid a hell of a lot more than 2K for that RE proto.

If community dumps are horse turds, how would such unreleased games ever be released? Obviously besides people like yourself who releases them for free!

Well I hope we're setting the example and that others will follow suit!
