Edit: Here is what a real SHVC-1A0N-20 board looks like. This bootleg is definitely different.

If the date on the chip is from 2003, does that mean that this fake is likely more than 10 years old? If so, perhaps we should not be too worried about a new generation of more convincing bootlegs hitting the scene, unless we can find another that was manufactured far more recently.. ]]>

We purchased this item from the wholesale dealer few years ago in Japan.
Even if this is not the original one, please be sure that we do not take any responsibility.
Please see the details of the picture before you buy it.

Wow, that's a horribly douchy thing to write - it's like labeling something that has been tested to be not working as "untested", except in the concext of black market products.
I wonder if they can even get away with writing BS ilke "we do not take any responsibility", when it's clearly a product that is illegal to sell, and they obviously know it.

For the record, here's what my cart looks like opened. The difference is almost impossible to spot without comparing them directly. Really scary.

Yeah, definitely hard to give the seller the benefit of the doubt on that one. Too many red flags.

In regards to Mr. Gimmick, at least the FC version, I do remember reading on Famicom World that you can verify if it's real by looking at the outer pins for the Sunsoft 5B chip. ]]>

I dread how many fakes I might already have in my collection. I usually never open up my cartridges to verify, as I feel like the methods I usually get the games, make it very clear wether I can trust the seller or not. In a situation like my Mr. Gimmick, it came in a box that was very obviously genuine, so I never even bothered checking the PCB. And some recurring eBay sellers like Hit-Japan I'd never suspect - but who's to say the bootleggers haven't already infiltrated respected stores? ]]>
