My point is to try and get people thinking about games beyond the lines of "Shiny thing!  Me make headshot!"

It's not necessary for someone to agree with all or even any of my statements - in fact, someone with an opposing viewpoint brings what is probably the most valuable commentary to the table.  As long as people are debating the pros and cons, then that means that they are thinking...and the fewer reactionary nitwits the gaming community has, the better off we all are.

I applaud your drive, but this is probably the wrong audience.  I would say most people that collect retro stuff and or nintendo stuff do not fall into the "CoD bro" archetype.  There are tons of us (retro gamers) that still play FPS current gen and not, but like I said most probably are not "shiny thing, Headshot" due to the fact that we have played games our entire lives- including beofre FPSes were even around.

I am posting this with the knowledge that this is "everything else" and people can post what ever they want.

I don't understand the pseudo-hipster point of this post. We get it, you are a hardcore retro gamer. So am I. I don't play sports games, but I don't need to post about how terrible they are because they are generic and come out every year. I just don't buy them. If you don't like the way FPS are heading, then don't play them. Simple. Show them with your wallet.

I love FPS games. I like them mostly because a lot of my friends that I don't see that often play them, and we can spend time playing them together.

MAYBE I SHOULD POST ABOUT HOW AWESOME THEY ARE

They're fun mindless single player games and the multiplayer can be fun but if you've played one you've played them all more or less.

Just like a lot of super popular series like Madden, FIFA, etc. ]]>

I enjoy battlefield. Also, CS 1.6!
By all means, you're free to do so.  Hell, I love Unreal Tourney and Bulletstorm, of all things.  Nothing wrong with enjoying violence and 'splodeys at all.  I just think that the industry's current FPS model is inherently flawed, or rather, the industry's internal view of said model is flawed.

Never said CoD = Every FPS. I was merely using it as an example. Clearly, all relevant points of my post were missed.

Others were mentioned in passing but CoD was tunneled pretty hard to represent modern shooters ]]>

Goldeneye gets overpraised. Take off the nostalgia glasses and it hasn't aged that well. Ugly graphics, funky controls, and near broken multiplayer. CoD owes more to CS and BF.

Nothing wrong with multiplayer focused games. We have come a way with enemy AI but it is never going to top human competition. It gives a game legs because it makes every play different. Fighting games would be near worthless without this.

What is so wrong with Deathmatch? Sometimes you just want to shoot dudes without any BS, it is kind of hard to improve upon. There are other game modes as well if you like objective and Nazi Zombies which is pretty unique. ]]>
