Anyone with Gamestop preorders checking their tracking. It looks like I am getting mine tomorrow instead of Monday. They shipped it fast!

I passed by my GameStop and ran into this

Nice setup with touch screen but you can't play anything. Nothing is interactive other than touch screen to show a demo of hardware or software

What a downer. The Switch would be perfect in one of those immobile docks. Two cone shaped holes and a USB-C port. Clamp on and don't let go. Waggle games wouldn't work however...

The Pro Controllers seemed to be in relatively high supply as well. Makes it pretty obvious that Nintendo boned everyone trying to get an NES Classic. I can say I'm thoroughly impressed with the Pro controller. It's easily the most comfortable and well designed controller I've ever held in my hands.

One observation about the Switch tablet, the USB-A to USB-C cable that charges the Pro controller won't work. According to the nameplate, Switch needs 15V to operate, so I may have to invest in a couple spare USB-U Switch adapters for the couch and bed. ]]>

Why the hell are people tasting the cartridges? Whats wrong with people? http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/1/14784140/nintendo-switch-car...
That's got to be the dumbest thibg I've ever heard...

"A bittering agent (Denatonium Benzoate) has also been applied to the game card," the spokesperson said, adding that Nintendo recommends keeping Switch cartridges away from children "to avoid the possibility of accidental ingestion." The representative also noted that denatonium benzoate is non-toxic.

So they add a chemical to dissuade children from putting it in their mouths and choking on it. That does not explain the adult fascination with the taste. Also why has this not been dne with SD cards? I'm also curious as to the substance solubility in rubbing alcohol. It would be an easy way to remove it.

Nintendo has probably had at least a few reports over the years of children swallowing DS cards, so this would be their response.

children are more likely to be playing with game cards than SD cards. I think it makes sense. As for adults giving it a taste, curiosity is a bitch

Its so stupid! Cuz now its like a thing! They made it taste bad, quick, everyone go shove em in your mouth! You know what, I was going to do an unbox video and do the whole "lick" thing on camera, with a backstory that licking the cart would enchant you with te spirit of the triforce, followed by running to the fridge to grab a beer "to get the taste of Ganon out of my mouth." But it was 2am, I had fresh batteries in my camera but all I wanted to do was crack open Zelda and play the game. Plus my mom was in the room (she wanted to see me show off the console), and that type of tomfoolery doesn't pass the"mom" test.

So I thought "eff it, there will probably be a thousand unboxing vids by tomorrow on youtube" so I just opened it up and played. I understand the bitterant is not supposed to be volatile, but the game smelled nasty when I opened it. Not "mmm fresh ink" type smell either. It was putrid, like an overturned can of CPU duster. For the record, I don't inhale shit, but was clearing some dust one day and accidentally inverted the can too close to my face and got fridgid splash back.

Anyway the smell dissipated rapidly, and I didn't want a 1000x dose of it on my tounge. I may try licking the cart later, but the 91% isopropanol that people use to clean their NES connector pins should get it off, if my chemistry is correct.

Back to Zelda, this game is amazing. I definitely recommend picking up a guide though if you're averse to aimless wandering. Unfortunately my Amazon guide hasn't arrive yet. Minor spoilers ahead (nothingplot related though), so stop reading...

You can literally roam anywhere in the game, no holds barred, once you get the sail and can leave the plateau. Be aware if you wanter off too early in the game, you will get slain pretty quickly. I like the combat system and foraging for food, but I can't help feeling slightly guilty slaying woodland animals for nourishment. Arrows are quite effective on small prey. For larger animals, one arrow won't kill it so you may try to ambush. The process of cooking meals for health / elixors is similar to the crafting system in Minecraft. You need three components to cook, ingredients, fire, and a pot. In a pinch, you can consume raw food for health but the effect is diminished compared to cooked meals.

Like Minecraft, there is no currency system I know of. I've also found a few ores and gems, not sure what they're used for yet. Unless you are completely averse to combat, you will find an unending supply of weaponry and other items from enemies. Try attacking Bokoblin base camps as these can be a treasure trove of items. I generally find however, despite weapons breaking down, there is plenty more arsenal out there than what you can carry. Some items like axes or hammers, while effective, have a lot of practicale usage outside of combat and are less common so avoid the temptation to wear them out on field enemies.

Also avoid the Guardians at all cost. There lasers are lethal!

One more thing, there is an icy mountain region on the plateau you need to traverse in order to reach a certain temple. In lieu of warm clothing, try cooking some chilli peppers with apples or mushrooms. This will restore two hearts and the spice give you three minutues of invulnerability to the cold. ]]>

Yeah, I accidentally pre-ordered 2 consoles and got charged for them. Kept the one I wanted. Being a cynical person, I placed the other one on Craigslist at cost, and within an hour, the scalpers were dropping their prices by $50 - $100 at a time. Maybe Nintendo wasn't releasing Classics because they were focused on manufacturing the Switch? It would make sense to me, although I have no knowledge of the distribution process. It seems like they're widely available. ]]>
