I decided to have a another look at raphnet and lo and behold an updated and better adapter cable has been added to the store. It uses a wii plug so it can use a wii classic or even a NES/SNES classic controller! I bought one and I'm so happy that the default "gameboy player" button mapping leaves the select button as the select button =D If you reeeally need the "z" button menu, I found that you can access that easily by having another controller plugged into the second port and using that.

Why not just use an actual Gba?

I don't like using my gba very much.  The buttons feel mushy and nonresponsive (second hand unit).... and I'll need a million batteries....
Sounds like an original GBA unit?  Have you tried an SP?  those have much more responsive buttons imho.

I hate the SPs buttons personally   I'll take the original any day. ]]>

I was hoping for a USB to GC adapter so I could plug in the Pokken Tournament pad but haven't found anything to help, or something that could utilize the new SNES Classic controllers with the Wii plugs.  I don't even know if those ideas would even work since the Gameboy Player can be finicky with adapters.  I haven't heard anything about 8bitdo doing anything with Gamecube.... ]]>
